about meFashion is a form of art without limits. What most attracts me to the study of fashion and textiles is the blending of creative freedom with a finished projection of style and self-expression. It offers the chance to look creatively at a project and draw from limitless sources and personal experience.
from a very early age a career in fashion enticed me, through a natural affinity with needlework and pattern cutting. My Grandmother bought me my first sewing machine when I was five years old, and she was a hugely important influence in teaching me basic skills and gradually advancing my potential and deeper interest in other design crafts such as knitting, crochet and patchwork. Studying Art, Product Design and Economics, at A-level broadened my artistic scope and dexterity with an understanding of business and commerce which will be a useful foundation in the world of fashion and its future trends and projections. I consider Art to be my strongest subject. I have pushed the boundaries of my own creativity, taken risks, guided by my teachers, to experiment with abstraction through exploration of the work of Cy Twombly, Joan Mitchel and Rita Ackerman, looking at their works with an angle on female empowerment. I have also continued to develop a new love of photography concentrating on composition and light effects. |
